About General Education
General Education is the story of four college students thrown together to work on a group project for their Environmental Science class. The students are assigned to collect different types of invasive species and create a presentation of their impacts. In the process of completing the assignment, Caroline, Claire, Logan, and Nathan come to learn more about each other... whether they really want to or not.

General Education was the product of Jake Hughes and Alex Lee's capstone project for the Design | Cultures + Creativity program at the University of Maryland. The overarching goal of General Education was to explore ideas of perception in order to approach storytelling in a new and novel way. The hope is that different viewers will experience a story in unique ways and that they will form genuine and organic connections to the characters. The pilot episode was created in order to demonstrate the concept of the creators. They wish to inspire other creators to further explore these ideas of openness and perspective.

How it works
The viewer is allowed to choose which character they wish to follow through the events of the story. They are free to switch between characters throughout an episode. These choices determines which scenes they view and what information is disclosed or withheld from the viewer. The combination of information that the viewer has or lacks influences the viewers perception and understanding of the characters and ultimately the plot.

Meet Claire

Ambitious. Dedicated. Easily-stressed.

Claire takes on a lot, but often bites off more than she can chew. Calendars and planners are her friend, social situations are not. People call her a try-hard, but the joke's on them- she has that on her resumé.

Claire is played by Daniela Gomes, a fellow student at the University of Maryland.

Meet Nathan

Intelligent. Sarcastic. Slacker.

Nathan's attempts to look cool often make him icier than he intends. His two greatest fears are wildlife and working when he doesn't have to. His comfort zone is too small to be seen by the naked eye.

Nathan is played by Theo Couloumbis, a fellow student at the University of Maryland.

Meet Logan

Bombastic. Passionate. Pushover.

Well-read and a politics buff, he's extremely outspoken on his anonymous online blog. He has vague aspirations of leadership as long as it's not too scary. When not working on group projects, he can often be found going on drunken rants to unsuspecting people.

Logan is played by David Oletsky, a fellow student at the University of Maryland.

Meet Caroline

Artistic. Eccentric. Lover of frogs.

Caroline has high hopes for this project; her last one ended in a helicopter chase. She dreams of becoming either a sidewalk artist or professional cow impersonater. Her only weaknesses are a fear of heights and an overconsumption of orange juice.

Caroline is played by Ren Gill, a fellow student at the University of Maryland.
